Many have said chess is a thinking man’s game, one of non-contact. However, a young boy in Russia experienced a different side of the game after a robot he was playing against mistakenly squeezed the boy’s finger, breaking it in the process.

The situation went down at the Moscow Chess Open when the boy went to move one of his pieces. However, he didn’t wait for the robot to respond. The boy tried to make another move, which led the robot to react simultaneously and grab the boy’s finger.

Footage that surfaced showed people rushing to the boy to help release the robot's grip before escorting him away. Moscow Chess Federation President Sergey Lazarev said the young boy’s finger was broken and put in a cast. He then noted the child was back at the chess board the next day. Watch above.
