Jay Ellis (37), the co-star of one of the most critically acclaimed African American television shows (Insecure on HBO) of the past decade, recently tied the knot with his girlfriend of over six years, a Serbian model named Nina Seničar (34). Although the wedding took place at Tuscany Gardens back on July 7th, they recenly published photos from the event with Vogue Magazine. The heralded fashion outlet posted the images on their Instagram page today, and they have since already gone viral. But the comment sections where the photos have been re-posted have been flooded with an outpouring of Ellis' female fans who were shocked and none too pleased about the notion that he maintained a low-profile relationship with a White woman all throughout his stint on Insecure; which is a show that embodies African American culture and a series that essentially made him a star.
"We not winning the race war," wrote one fan.
"He made a lot of [money] so he's going to to get a White wife," added another IG user.
"Another sell out, these Black men wanna fit in so bad," wrote another displeased fan.
Not everyone disapproves of the highly publicized interracial marriage as several fans of both parties also took to the comment section to show their support for the couple with well-wishes and rebuttals for the naysayers.
"Love is love why does color matter congratulations to love," wrote one supporter.
"She's GORGEOUS!! Congratulations!" added another happy supporter.
Indeed, Ellis' character, Lawrence, did marry a Black woman (Issa) in the final episode of Insecure. But that was merely an on-screen fantasy that his fans are going to have to move on from at some point. In real life, the marriage between Nina Seničar and Jay Ellis is just one highlight in what has already been a great year for the latter. Ellis was nominated for an NAACP Award, and he recently starred in "Top Gun: Maverick," a feature film starring Tom Cruise that has shattered box office records. So, as the debates wage on about his love interest, it appears that Ellis will continue to progress in his career, regardless of the criticism, with a new loving wife in tow.
