Four months ago, comedian Dave Chappelle spoke out against a proposal for an affordable housing project to be developed in the neighborhood where he currently resides, Yellow Springs, Ohio. His staunch viewpoint against the 52-acre initiative by Oberer Land Developers Ltd. was captured on camera and it quickly went viral. The intent behind the iconic stand-up comedian's opposition prompted many of his fans to question his level of apathy for the lower-middle class demographic, which caused "Cancel Dave Chappelle" talks to intensify. Nevertheless, Chappelle has never been one to succumb to public-driven pressure. Case and point, his recent purchase of 19 acres of land in Yellow Springs. While the exact amount of this acquistation has not been confirmed just yet, the 48-year-old is rumored to have paid a hefty price, just to stop the affordable housing project from happening. Now, the developers at Oberer Land Developers Ltd. only have 33 acres left to work with. The original plan for their development was to provide affordable housing for nearly four thousand people. Chapple's new purchase may change that objective, dramatically. Some might view this transaction as a cold-blooded flex, while others have defended the comedian's right to use his resources in order to ensure peace of mind, by any means necessary.
