According to reports, a 5-year-old boy died in the car after his mother left him buckled inside for hours while she prepared for a birthday party for her daughter.
Police say the mother was in a rush when she arrived at her Houston-area home and forgot that her child was still inside the car. It wasn't until hours later that she realized the grave mistake.
"This time the child didn't make it out and again with the business of the activities that they were preparing for, it took a while for them to notice that the child wasn't in the house," said Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.
FIrst responders pronounced the boy dead at the scene. It's not immediately clear whether the mother will face charges.
