21 Savage spoke candidly with Math Hoffa about the recent events that have rocked the Atlanta hip-hop scene with the RICO charges facing members of YSL, including Young Thug and Gunna. According to 21, there's a strong possibility that other rappers could be susceptible to catching similar charges due to their connection to their hometowns and neighborhood.
“It’s a Catch-22 [...] It's like, I can make it and forget about my hood, and then my hood going to be trying to kill me. Or, I can look out for my hood, and I can catch a RICO,” said 21 Savage. “If you get on and turn your back on your hood, you’re a fuck n***a. They gonna take your jewelry, they gonna show the world, ‘He ain’t even like that. He’s a bitch.’ If you take care of your hood, you’re a fucking leader.”
21 urged rappers to be more cognizant about the potential predicament they're putting themselves in by hanging out in their old neighborhoods. “If you want to be a n***a hanging on the block, just know that you can get killed hanging on the block, rapper or not. That’s how it go.”
He also spoke about whether he fears a RICO charge coming his way due to his connection to his old neighborhood. “It depends on the relationship you got with the hood,” he shared. “If those really your brothers, when your life change, their lives are supposed to change. … It’s not gonna work for everybody. … Some n***as gonna die, some n***as gonna go to jail. Some n***as gonna be successful, though. … You just gotta provide avenues for that shit…that’s the goal, to pull n***as out [of the hood].”
