From a legal standpoint, when a wild animal kills a human being in America, it is typically subjected to capital punishment. But overseas in South Sudan, officials have settled on another method of disciplinary action. A sheep in South Sudan was recently sentenced to three years in a military camp for repeatedly ramming a 45-year-old woman named Adhieu Chaping in her rib cage until she died.
The incident garnered a trial where a judge from a local court determined that although the animal's owner Duony Manyang Dhal was innocent of the crime his animal committed, he would have to give the victim's family five cows as compensation for her untimely passing. This is because cattle, such as sheep, rams, and cows, are considered extremely valuable currency in South Sudan.
"The owner is innocent and the ram is the one who perpetrated the crime so it deserves to be arrested then later on the case shall be forwarded to customary court where the case can be handled amicably," explained police chief Major Elijah Mabor.
Upon apprehending the ram, local authorities took it to the Police Station of Maleng Agok Payam. Soon, it will be transported to Aduel County headquarters in Sudan's Lakes State, where it will serve out the entirety of a three-year sentence. Once the ram has fulfilled its punishment, the ram will then be handed over to the victim's family.
