The National Rifle Association is under fire again after the latest mass shooting has gripped the consciousness of the country. As many Americans call for stricter gun laws amid the deadly shooting in Uvalde, TX (not to mention the Buffalo massacre last week), the NRA becomes a roadblock for many who see the lobbying group as a major culprit behind the shootings that occur almost weekly.

The NRA is set to host its convention in Texas this week, however, it appears they aren't responding to calls to cancel the event. In lieu of that, the organization released the following statement.

"Our deepest sympathies are with the families and victims involved in this horrific and evil crime," it reads. "On behalf of our members, we salute the courage of school officials, first responders and others who offered their support and services."

"Although an investigation is underway and facts and still emerging, we recognize this was the act of a lone, deranged criminal. As we gather in Houston, we will reflect on these events, pray for the victims, recognize our patriotic members, and pledge to redouble our commitment to making our schools secure."
