Talib Kweli took to Instagram on Monday (May 23) to speak about being attacked and robbed in 2019 while doing a show in Cincinnati.
Talib started off by speaking about his deep ties to Cincinnati, including working with artists in a local group called Space Invadaz, and he also revealed that the mother of his children lives in the city. Talib then revealed that a cousin to members of the group Space Invadaz punched and robbed him in 2019.
From there, Talib detailed the incident, revealing that he was asked to do a Black Star show with Yasiin Bey, and he added that the pay was vastly unequal. Despite feeling like he was underpaid, a day before the show was set to happen, Talib took to Instagram to reveal to fans that he wouldn't be performing because he wasn't paid.
However, despite his apprehension, Talib was told that if he showed up to perform, he would be paid after all. After performing with Yasiin Bey, Talib explained that he was confronted in his dressing room over the post, which led to him being punched and robbed by the promoter, who was a cousin of one of the members of the Space Invadaz.
Talib went on to speak about how this caused a rift between him and the Space Invadaz, and Donte, a member of the group, releasing a diss track. Talib also warned anyone associated with the incident about anything happening with his kids, who live in the city. You can hear his full response above.
