In many ways, the members of Cypress Hill are the unsung heroes of West Coast hip hop. Their self-titled debut album played an essential role in bringing cannabis culture and Chicano rap from Southern California to the masses. So, when the iconic trio agreed to take part in a Verzuz battle in Los Angeles County, the group's lead vocalist, B-Real, anticipated that Triller would at least provide some hospitality for the homegrown guests. But instead, their highly-anticipated showdown with Onyx didn't even garner any live streaming time.
That is largely due to the fact that the Verzuz battle was a part of a lineup card that also featured a slew of boxing matches. While Triller has been lauded for the innovative way in which they have bridged two separate forms of entertainment together, Cypress Hill and Onyx were clearly the most established names on the bill last Friday. So, the notion that they were shorted still doesn't sit right with B-Real. To that, the legendary South Gate native shared his thoughts on Instagram.
"I have to say although it was great to rock w/ our brothers @ONYX_HQ in the Verzuz battle, I feel like [VERZUZ] shorted us all by not running it on Ig live like all other battles," he wrote. "They made it a ppv event & made the battle a side show for the boxing matches instead. IMO."
As of now, there is still no word on whether or not Triller will sanction a Verzuz re-match, between Cypress Hill and Onyx. But the hip-hop fans who paid money in order to watch a battle between the two groups on Pay-Per-View were not too pleased with the outcome, as several of them voiced their displeasure on social media as well.
