Sheriff deputies at Volusia County had quite the fiasco on their hands, recently, after a bloody fistfight abruptly ended the jovial festivities at an annual boat party called 'Mayhew at Lake George.' According to reports, the infamous scuffle erupted near the DJ booth, midway through the event, and shortly thereafter fits were flying from every direction. The melee lasted until the deputies managed to get close to the main stage, where they were able to secure a man who had been knocked unconscious in order to get him onto a helicopter and fly him to a local medical facility.

"They actually had to guide us in," said Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood. "We lifted our engine out of the water and had them get us in, so we can get medical attention to the individual who was severely injured in the fight."

As for the rest of the people involved with the skirmish, the authorities on hand made about a dozen arrests along with eight citations and over 50 warnings. Most of the punishment that was handed down allegedly stemmed from behavior related to boating DUIs. Because of this, the status of the long-running event could be in jeopardy, especially given the fact that local authorities had to utilize so many of their own resources this year just to keep the partygoers in line.

"We accrued costs. Orange County accrued costs. Lake County accrued costs and Seminal County because even though it’s mutual aid taxpayers are still paying to put policing out there," Sheriff Chitwood said.
