As the conversation unfolds, the 48-year-old explains how his mother's relocation to New York resulted in his demo landing on the desk of Andre Harrell and a record deal with Uptown Records shortly thereafter. This ultimately led to him moving to New York where he met a young P. Diddy who was working at Uptown Records as an intern at the time. Lastly, Damon Thomas recounts playing music for Mary J. Blige when they were both 18-years-old and meeting Teddy Riley for the first time.
