Update 03/28/2022 8:19pm:

The slap that was quite literally heard around the world involving Will Smith and Chris Rock will be the source of memes for years to come, however, the beef between the two was shortlived. After Diddy revealed that Rock and Smith squashed things after the show, and Rock decided against pressing charges, Smith issued a public apology on Monday.

The apology can be found in its entirety below:

Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive. My behavior at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally.

I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.

I would also like to apologize to the Academy, the producers of the show, all the attendees and everyone watching around the world. I would like to apologize to the Williams Family and my King Richard Family. I deeply regret that my behavior has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us.

I am a work in progress.

Sincerely,

Will

Will Smith shocked the world when he walked on stage at the Oscars on Sunday (March 27) and slapped Chris Rock after the comedian made a joke about Jada Pinkett-Smith's hair, which she shaved due to dealing with alopecia.

The LAPD has since revealed that Rock declined to file a police report against Will, and Diddy provided more information about the two stars following the incident. Diddy told Page Six, "That's not a problem. That’s over. I can confirm that. It's all love. They're brothers."

This comes after Diddy predicted that Will and Chris would make amends following the awards show, as he tweeted, "Will and Chris, we’re gonna solve that like family at the Gold Party," referring to Jay-Z and Beyonce's annual after-party.
