On Wednesday (March 16) evening, Jussie Smollett was released from Cook County Jail just 6 days into his 150-day sentence.

An appeals court agreed with Jussie's lawyers that he should be released pending the appeal of his conviction for staging a racist and homophobic attack and lying to police. Smollett was convicted on five felony counts of disorderly conduct for lying to police, and he was released on Wednesday after signing a personal recognizance bond of $150,000, which did not require any money to be paid.

Shay Allen, an attorney for Smollett, reacted to the news of his release, stating, "I think we're here because an appellate court realized this was the right thing to do. I hope everyone realized that the persecution that went on in that courthouse was absurd."
