The Los Angeles Lakers’ current NBA season has been a storied one, as LeBron James has been balling, despite being in ninth place in the Western Conference. Fans and higher-ups in the Lakers organization have allegedly placed part of the team’s struggles on Russell Westbrook, who was previously booed by Lakers fans at a home game. Now, former Lakers star Magic Johnson went as far as calling out Westbrook for how he’s playing, saying Russell needs to take accountability.
While speaking to ESPN, Johnson reflected on how his team played poorly in 1991 but could get themselves together and make it to the NBA finals. “But Russell Westbrook, young man, you gotta know, there was expectations when you called LeBron and Anthony Davis and said you wanted to be a Laker,” said Johnson.
He continued addressing Westbrook, saying, “But Russell Westbrook, young man, you gotta know, there was expectations when you called LeBron and Anthony Davis and said you wanted to be a Laker.” Johnson then fired off advice to Westbrook, telling to “Quit battling the press, take ownership and accountability and say, ‘Hey, I haven’t played well, but I got a chance to turn it around.’ So, I’m tired of excuses, it’s time to take ownership and say, ‘I’ve just been playing poorly, but hopefully I can turn it around.’” Watch above.
