Cam Newton will have enjoyed the residuals of being a Heisman Trophy winner, an NFL MVP, and a Super Bowl runner-up long after the prime of his career has subsided. But according to a recent interview with Brittany Renner on his YouTube series called Funky Friday, his celebratory lifestyle has been to the detriment of the family that he is trying to raise. In fact, during his discussion with the celebrity fitness model, Cam Newton addressed the topic by stating that his fondness for the limelight may have contributed to the lack of marital commitment.
"The thing is that person that I was while we were having children together, I couldn’t be the best husband. I wasn’t prepared to be a husband then,” Cam Newton said. “I was on temptation island. A football player, young, ‘no’ is not even in my vocabulary...I just found myself in this downward spiral. Did she deserve better? I would humbly say, yes, she did… I was falling deeper into my own selfishness and realizing I gotta be better.”
Newton previously started dating Shakia Proctor in 2013. However, the couple split in 2020 after having four children together.
