Kanye West has never been one to shy away from an opportunity to drop a hot take in regards to a controversial topic. His unorthodox critiques on slavery in America and his admitted preference for White women over Black women in the bedroom have garnered pushback from on-air personalities like Van Lathan and comedians such as Trevor Noah.
Yesterday, they were joined by author Candice Marie Benbow, who took to Instagram to share her opinion on Kanye's alleged underappreciation of Black women by suggesting that even they couldn't reshape his perspective at this point. Instead, she concluded he likely needs psychological help.
"Kanye doesn't need a Black woman," Candice wrote. "Kanye needs therapy, medication and personal responsibility. People--Black women especially--need to stop acting like we are the cure to foolishness. We are not Tylenol. We are human beings and we deserve partners who are healthy and mature."
When Van Lathan -- a man who once challenged Ye's opinion on slavery during a taping of TMZ Live -- caught wind of the quote from Candice, he reposted her message on his Instagram feed. His post was accompanied by a simple caption that said, "yo," and a nod to Candice Marie Benbow. This, prompted several co-signs from notable celebrities like Laz Alonso, Joy Taylor, and Bryan Michael Cox.
