Update 02/05/2022 12:09pm:

Singer India Arie recently took to social media to speak on Joe Rogan and why she chose to ask for her music to be removed from Spotify. Arie shared a video that has now gone viral, showing all the times Rogan decided to use the N-word on his podcast. Along with that, the video showed times Rogan referred to Black people as apes. Now, Rogan has taken to social media to apologize for frequenting using the n-word throughout his career.

Rogan has been facing backlash after artists called out Spotify for saying Rogan was allegedly sharing misinformation about COVID-19 on ‘The Joe Rogan Experience.’ The podcaster went on to say, “It looks f**king horrible, even to me. I know that to most people, there is no context where a white person is ever allowed to say that word, never mind publicly on a podcast, and I agree with that now.”

“Now, I haven't said it in years, but for a long time, when I would bring that word up, like, if it would come up in conversation and instead of saying the n-word, I would just say the word – I thought as long as it was in context, people would understand what I was doing,” Rogan continued. The former ‘Fear Factor’ host went on to say, “I never used it to be racist, because I'm not racist, but whenever you're in a situation where you have to say 'I'm not racist,' you've f*cked up, and I clearly have f**ked up.” Since the backlash, Spotify has reportedly removed 70 episodes of Joe Rogan’s podcast.

Singer India Arie is one of the latest artists to ask Spotify to remove her music over the Joe Rogan controversy. However, India Arie isn't citing Rogan's misinformation about the COVID-19 pandemic as her reason. She's calling out Rogan for past comments that can be interpreted as racially insensitive at best and outright racist at worst.

India Arie took to social media and shared clips of the controversial comedian/MMA commentator/podcaster using the N-word and other disparaging language about black people, like referring to black neighborhoods as "Planet of the Apes."

Regarding his use of the n-word, India Arie said "[Joe Rogan] shouldn't even be uttering the [n-]word. Don't even say it, under any context. That's where I stand. I have always stood there." She went on to rip Spotify for its revenue share with artists and how that links up with the Rogan controversy. "We have this person who is offensive to a lot of people and is paid $100 million. The backbone of Spotify is the music. You pay the musicians .003-.005 percent of a penny and take this money generated over here and use it to invest in this guy? Do you what you want, but take me off. Or pay me too. I mean us. Pay artists like me too. Pay podcasters of color too."
