Chris Brown and Drake have been fighting a lawsuit related to their 2016 song “No Guidance,” with the artists being accused of copyright infringement. Both artists have said the suit is “baseless,” and now they are pushing to have the lawsuit dropped.

The suit against Brown and Drake was filed by Brandon Cooper and Timothy Valentine, with both people saying their song “I Love Your Dress” was taken by Brown to make “No Guidance.” The lawyer for Drake and Chris Brown—James Sammataro, said the allegations are baseless because the phrase “you got it” in the hook is too prevalent. The lawyer said, “Plaintiffs’ suit is premised upon the alleged similarity [to a] wholly generic lyrical phrase. No one, including plaintiffs, can own or monopolize the non-copyrightable phrase ‘you got it,’ and it should come as no surprise that this phrase appears in countless other works.”

Sammataro also pointed out that the plaintiffs in the case couldn’t prove that Drake or Chris Brown actually came across their song, which is required in a copyright infringement case. Stay tuned for more updates.
