In 1999, Kool Moe Dee gave grades to various rappers who were out at the time for a “rap report card” as part of ‘Ego Trip’s Book of Rap Lists,’ put together by Elliott Wilson, Sacha Jenkins, and others. The report card recently went viral, as Snoop Dogg reacted to the grade Kool Moe Dee gave him.
Artists like Jay-Z received an 82/B grade for their overall skill, while artists like Busta Rhymes, Biggie, and Tupac received grades above 90. Snoop reposted the viral bit and responded to his grade, saying, “B. Plus 👏🏿👊🏾🔥⛽️🐐. Thanks. @koolmoedee.” The list is interesting, as some artists who are pushed as rap’s elite received surprisingly low marks. Take a look above.
