Griselda Records and their head honcho Westside Gunn have been at the forefront of embracing pro-wrestling, mainly the WWE, within hip-hop. This includes other notable artists such as Wale and Smoke DZA. However, Westside Gunn and Griselda have done much to incorporate samples from classic WWE moments in their music to solidify the embrace further.
But things look to have soured after the WWE had several Griselda Records videos taken down from YouTube over copyright issues. WWE announcer Greg Hamilton took to Instagram, calling out Westside Gunn and Griselda over the use of his voice. “Well @westsidegunn @buffalokidsgallery let’s hope that since you STOLE my voice for your incoherent kindergarten fables…that you saved up enough delivering for Door Dash," he wrote.
Hamilton continued, “You’ll be paying me for years….apologize, and I’ll think about not collecting every dime for the rest of your life….or I can just get WWE lawyers….that’s ok too. Settle with my lawyer. And don’t EVER use my voice again….so wrong.”
Not long after, the IG Story on the Griselda Records page showed the notice from YouTube alerting them about the removed content. The message read, "Due to a copyright takedown notice that we received, we had to take down the following videos from YouTube," adding, "Takedown issued by: WORLD WRESTLING ENTERTAINMENT, INC." The words, "Retroactive copyright claims why!?! @WWE," were imposed over the YouTube statement.
