Following the fight, Davis revealed that he hurt his left hand, "I hurt my hand so I couldn't get him out of there. He's a shorter fighter so I was throwing down on the top of his head. I hit him with my knuckle and messed it up. I hurt my hand in the sixth round." Cruz also told the media that he noticed Davis' injury, stating, "It was right around the fifth round I saw that his hand wasn't working correctly."

Lightweight contender Ryan Garcia called out Davis on Twitter after the fight, writing, "Gervonta gets away with fighting c level fighters, out of all the lightweights he’s the weakest!!! His toughest test was Leo Santa Cruz, almost lost tonight bring it on I’ve been calling you out for awhile..."

After his fight, Davis made it clear that he's the one to beat when asked about Garcia, George Kambosos Jr., and Devin Haney, stating, "Either guy is easy work, easy work, easy work man. I'm the top dog." Check out highlights from the fight above.
