After news broke of the passing of Virgil Abloh, Louis Vuitton paid tribute to the famed designer by unveiling his last collection for the fashion house, where he served as creative director for three years. It was revealed in a statement that Abloh, 41, lost his private two-year battle with cardiac angiosarcoma, a rare aggressive form of cancer.
During the Spring/Summer 2022 men’s collection presentation, titled "Virgil Was Here," a multi-colored statue of Abloh was revealed to the celebrity-packed crowd in Miami. Kim Kardashian, Kanye West, Bella Hadid, and Pharrell could be sitting front row, as Kid Cudi, Quavo and Offset walked the runway.
Abloh's creative collaborator Anders Christian Madsen revealed on Instagram, "On Saturday evening, @virgilabloh and I wrote our last words for his @louisvuitton show in Miami." The words were revealed in Abloh's voice at the end of the show, "There’s no limit … life is so short that you can’t waste even a day subscribing to what someone thinks you can do versus knowing what you can do."
