Thanksgiving Day marked the release of the latest episode of HBO's "Music Box" series. The latest documentary focused on DMX and his final tour following his release from prison in 2019. DMX's friend and close collaborator, Swizz Beatz, broke his silence on the new documentary this past weekend.
Viewers of DMX: Don't Try to Understand have praised the HBO episode for documenting the various sides of the late rapper, who passed away earlier this year. Swizz Beatz admitted that the documentary was hard for him to watch but still endorsed the film.
"Was hard to watch but can't lie they did a good job," Swizz Beatz wrote in an Instagram post. "Long live @dmx the Great. Go watch now."
The documentary's director, Chris Frierson, talked about the film in an interview with Rolling Out and said chronicling DMX helped him with his own sobriety.
"[DMX's] Humanity comes out because those things are all emotions that we as human beings experience," Frierson said. "The intent was really to show those relationships he has with his family, those relationships he has with his past abuse, the relationship he has with addiction. And these are all things that most Americans, or people in general, have relationships with...I partially owe my sobriety to him, to a certain extent, because the last thing he said to me was that I was going to be alright."
The next documentary from HBO's "Music Box" series will be The Abyss, which will be about the late Juice WRLD and is set to premier on December 16.
