Jay-Z is reportedly expected to be asked questions in court over a lawsuit related to an alleged breach of contract in a perfume deal he made.
Reports noted that Jay-Z was named in a lawsuit filed by Parlux Fragrances, who accused the mogul and rapper of failing to push a fragrance with his namesake stemming from a 2012 agreement. The suit was filed in 2016 in Supreme Court by the brand, saying Jay-Z allegedly declined to push the fragrance and refused to make an appearance at Macy’s to promote the product.
Along with that, the lawsuit claims they pitched a contest that involved a $20,000 perfume bottle featuring an 18-karat gold cap as the prize. They claim Jay-Z denied the promotion kept the prototype. Because of this, along with the other parts mentioned, the company claims it lost $18 million.
Since then, Jay-Z countersued, making claims that he is owed $2.7 by Parlux in the deal they made together. During a video hearing, Judge Andrew Borrok said, “This should be sorted out pretty quickly now given the fact that Mr. Viola [Parlux's attorney] knows that I’m encouraging him to call the artist and the artist’s business manager. So, the artist might be our first witness in the case if that’s what Mr. Viola chooses.” Jury selection for the case will reportedly start on Monday. Stay tuned for more updates.
