Q-Tip detailed his past relationship with Janet Jackson during his recent sit-down with Math Hoffa.
The Tribe Called Quest frontman explained that he and Janet first met when they were cast in John Singleton's Poetic Justice. Q-Tip revealed that Singleton originally approached him to play the Lucky role, which eventually went to Tupac, but he turned it down and settled for the role of Janet's boyfriend.
Q-Tip said Janet later contacted him to collaborate on her single, "Got 'til It's Gone," and the pair started dating afterward.
"We started dating after that," Q-Tip confirmed. "It be cool 'n s***. She be making eggs 'n s*** and I'll be chilling like, 'Yo, that's Penny!' to myself. I love her to death and it's like she's a Jackson. That's Black royalty."
The rapper didn't offer any further details about his past relationship with the pop icon and didn't explain what caused the eventual split. However, Q-Tip revealed that the Tribe Called Quest's classic hit, "Bonita Applebum," was inspired by a real female. To hear more, view the above clip starting at the 2:50 mark.
