Update 09/29/2021 10:01am:

21 Savage made headlines during his sit-down with DJ Akademiks on his "Off The Record Podcast," when he said that some people in the streets of Atlanta think that Future is bigger than Drake.

He explained, "In Atlanta, it's a lot of n***as who you can't tell them Future ain't bigger than Drake. On god, n***a. I used to think that! Drake ain't really no big mixtape artist like that. How you got all your Drake albums, you probably really went in the store and bought those motherfuckers. Every Future album I ever heard was a bootleg. N***as was bootleggin' it or going to Live Mixtapes. So when Nothing Was The Same and all that type of shit came out, n***as ain't knowing how to get to that."

After getting some push back, 21 Savage clarified his statement on Twitter, writing, "Na I said some people that come from where I come from do," clarified Savage. "Because when I was younger I was disconnected from mainstream music I didn’t know what Spotify was until I was a rapper…all we knew was mixtapes."

Check out more of what he had to say about the interview, including one Twitter follower saying 21 looks "dead," above.

DJ Akademiks revealed Tuesday that 21 Savage will be the latest guest on an upcoming episode of his "Off The Record Podcast." In anticipation of the upcoming episode, Akademiks posted a clip of his discussion with 21, where the Atlanta rapper admitted that he probably wouldn't listen to Drake's music if he wasn't a rapper.

21 Savage claimed people from the streets "don't be listening to Drake like that" before talking about why he consumes Drake's music. He stated that if he wasn't a rapper, he wouldn't listen to Drake's music. However, he acknowledged that working in the industry has allowed him to see how hard the rap superstar works.

"N***** don't be listening to Drake like that," 21 said. "If I wasn't a rapper, I don't feel like I still would listen to Drake, for real. It's just I'm a rapper, so I understand the work he put in, how hard he go."

21 explained to Akademiks that many listeners don't care about metrics and statistics when judging an artist's success. He added that those same listeners view club presence as a key indicator of how hot an artist is and claimed many people in Atlanta view Future as a bigger artist than Drake.

"Like when you ain't no rapper, all them statistics don't mean s***," he continued. "A regular street n**** don't give a f*** about how many times you went number one, like how many White people listen to your s*** because they don't even think...the farthest they think is the club. Who's selling this club out? That's who they think is the biggest n****. In Atlanta, it's a lot of n***** who you really can't tell them Future ain't bigger than Drake...I used to think that."

21 Savage also pointed out that Drake wasn't a major mixtape artist, so his presence wasn't as wide as Future's.
