During the closing arguments of the R. Kelly sex crimes trial, his defense team compared the disgraced singer to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and former Vice President of the United States Mike Pence.

According to TMZ, Kelly's defense attorney Devereaux Cannick said his client's fight was akin to how Dr. King "fought for Constitutional rights." Cannick reportedly recited parts of King's famous "I've Been to the Mountaintop" speech. "Somewhere I read of the freedom of speech. Somewhere I read of the freedom of assembly. Somewhere I read of the freedom of the press."

Kelly chose not to testify during the trial. The jury will soon begin deliberations. Kelly faces 10 years to life if he's convicted.
