Reggie Wright Jr. explained why he was no longer on the Gangster Chronicles podcast during his interview with The Art Of Dialogue. When asked why he departed the show he helped create, Wright claimed he was "betrayed" by his co-hosts.
"I was betrayed by friends, in my opinion," Wright responded about 4:45 into the above clip. "They may look at it differently, they may have a different opinion. But that's my side of the story. And they have a side of the story."
When discussing the fallout, Wright referenced the Gangster Chronicles podcast getting picked up by Charlamagne's Black Effect Podcast Network. He claimed that after joining the network, his co-hosts were advanced $75,000. However, he was in prison and was unaware of the advance.
"They were advanced $75,000," he claimed. "I didn't find out they were advanced that much or had already received the advance until a few days before I got sick. But that time, they had MC Eiht doing shows with them because I was in prison and they picked him up. Their opinion is that my being in prison is when the show picked up and had all the success and the reason that Charlamagne signed them. I don't agree with that because I think the numbers were better when I was on the show."
Reggie Wright Jr. pointed out that his name was mentioned in the initial press release announcing their deal with Charlamagne. He questioned why he would be mentioned if his co-hosts didn't consider him an essential part of the podcast. He added that the $75,000 should have been split three ways instead of two and that he would build something else once his health improved.
Despite his issue with Mob James, Wright voiced his happiness with his former co-host's success. He also said he was proud of Mob James' growth after the way he handled his verbal altercation with Charleston White.
