President Joe Biden addressed the nation on Tuesday after declaring the end to the war in Afghanistan after 20 years.

"My fellow Americans, the war in Afghanistan is now over," Biden said. "I'm the fourth president who has faced the issue of whether and when to end this war. When I was running for president, I made a commitment to the American people that I would end this war. Today I've honored that commitment."

Despite the backlash he's received after withdrawing troops, Biden shot back at his critics by noting that the situation in Afghanistan was one "between leaving and escalating."

According to Biden, "I was not going to extend this forever war, and I was not extending a forever exit." For the Biden administration, this address is the final word on the situation which turned quite chaotic over the past two weeks.
