Rising Detroit rapper Lil Mello was charged Thursday for being a marijuana user in possession of a firearm, two days after his initial arrest.
The 19-year-old rapper's music videos and social media posts were investigated by the Detroit Police Department prior to his arrest. During the arrest, Lil Mello -- real name Romello Johnson -- was spotted across the street from a home investigators were raiding.
During the raid, the police found a handgun painted like the American flag and arrested the rapper for being too young to have a concealed pistol license. Law enforcement also discovered photos of the gun in Lil Mello's phone and spotted the weapon in his "Baxk to Pressin" music video.
After his arrest, Lil Mello admitted to being a marijuana smoker but denied being the owner of the gun despite using it in music videos.
Lil Mello is currently being held without bond until a federal court hearing on Monday, August 23rd. He's also facing armed robbery charges in Las Vegas after being accused of robbing a marijuana dealer for a gun.
