50 Cent has seen success with his latest Starz series ‘Power: Raising Kanan,’ and now the rapper has been preparing for the release of his next series centered around the story of BMF. While trailers for the series arrived to much praise, many commented on the story, saying 50 was glorifying drugs and guns.
50 recently made an appearance at the Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour and was asked about his upcoming show. While speaking on the show, 50 addressed claims that the Starz series glorified drug and gang culture.
50 went on to point out, “There’s a huge separation between entertainment and reality.” He continued by saying, “People who don’t differentiate between the two should be in a mental institution because they can’t separate their reality from what they’re watching. When you watch 'Forensic Files,' does it make you feel like you should go kill somebody?... You don’t do that.”
From there, 50 noted that drugs didn’t randomly pop into neighborhoods in Detroit. “The CIA was actually letting drugs into these communities and creating higher penalties for people who had crack cocaine, [but not higher penalties] for those people who had the cocaine we see in those Hollywood bathrooms partying... It’s the same drug but different penalties,” said 50.
50 concluded by noting that the BMF series will be “successful regardless” while brushing off critics who he says are “judgmental.” Watch the trailer for BMF above.
