Monday's United Nations report on climate change warned of "a code red for humanity." Following Monday's report, activists began planning mass climate change protests demanding political, financial, and corporate institutions meet their demands to curb humanity's impact on Earth's climate.
Conservative political commentator Candace Owens responded to reports of the planned protests by bashing climate activism and labeling it as an exclusively White cause.
"What is it about climate activism specifically that attracts so many white women in particular and why do they keep pretending they are doing it on behalf of 'racial justice' when there is never a single black person in attendance at their temper tantrums?" Owens wrote on Twitter. "Climate activism is literally the whitest extra curricular activity ever. It's just something I've noticed over my years in politics."
Owens followed up her remarks by also claiming climate activists are often suburban elites with "too much time" on their hands.
"I cannot explain to you the level I cringe I feel when I see climate protest. THE most suburban extracurricular activity in the world. It's like being forced to watch Hillary Clinton do a hip-hop dance. They think it makes them look cool but we all just want it to stop," she added. "Tell me you're a suburban elitist with too much time on your hands without telling me you're a suburban elitist with too much time on your hands."
In the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) new climate change report, some of the key takeaways were that carbon dioxide has reached the highest level in at least the past 2 million years, causing overall temperatures to rise rapidly. In addition, heatwaves, storms, and droughts are getting worse. However, scientists believe humans can prevent catastrophic climate change by reducing emissions from power plants and cars, and halting the use of fossil fuels.
