As the nation's capital, like much of the country, witnessed swarms of protestors take to the streets in the wake of the murder of George Floyd, former President Donald Trump famously scurried into the White House bunker as demonstrators coalesced around 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. News of Trump hiding in the bunker during the protests made headlines across the nation.
Fast forward, and news is coming out that Trump divulged to a group of advisors that he wanted the leaker behind the bunker story to be executed for treason. CNN notes the "traitor" was part of Trump's inner circle. “Trump boiled over about the bunker story as soon as they arrived and shouted at them to smoke out whoever had leaked it,” Michael Bender writes in Frankly, We Did Win This Election: The Inside Story of How Trump Lost from Wall Street Journal. “It was the most upset some aides had ever seen the president.”
Bender also noted Trump explicitly wanted the leaker killed: “Whoever did that, they should be charged with treason!” Trump is said to have exclaimed. “They should be executed!”
