Reports surfaced noting that a man serving a life sentence for robbing an Arkansas taco shop with a water gun may finally be released after serving 40 years in prison.

Asa Hutchinson—the governor of Arkansas, recently announced he is planning to commute the sentence of 70-year-old Rolf Kestrel, who only ended up getting $264 after robbing Señor Bob’s Taco Hut in 1981.

According to reports, the cashier at the taco stand who Kestrel robbed actually pushed for the man's release from prison. The former cashier—Dennis Schlutterman, said, “I actually apologized to him because I felt like even though he was the one that robbed me, I felt like I had taken his life because he had been in there for so long.” Schlutterman noted that Kestrel never even pointed the water gun at him, only making it seem as if it was real by pointing it through his jacket. The man noted he was shocked by the fact that Kestrel was still in jail 25 years after the robbery, saying, “Many nights I sat there and thought about it and thought about it,” he said. “I couldn’t believe that he was still there.”

A spokesperson for Governor Hutchinson said Kestrel would be eligible for parole after August 4 if there nothing changes by then.
