An Alabama man is on trial for murder after he allegedly killed his pregnant wife and four other of her family members with the help of his first wife.
Christopher Henderson, 46, heard testimony against him on Monday from his first wife, Rhonda Carlson, whom Henderson is still legally married to despite marrying his second wife, Kristen Smallwood Henderson.
To avoid the death penalty, Carlson took a plea deal and claimed Henderson orchestrated the 2015 killings. According to Carlson, the two reconnected the summer of the murders but worked to finalize their divorce.
Authorities say the family was shot and stabbed multiple times before Henderson set the home afire with the assistance of Carlson. In addition to killing Henderson's wife Kirsten, her 8-year-old son, Clayton Chambers, her mother, Jean Smallwood, and her 1-year-old nephew, Eli Sokolowski, were also killed.
If convicted, Henderson could face the death penalty.
