Meek Mill’s push for criminal justice reform has been admirable, as the Philadelphia rapper has used his platform numerous times to call out and create change to current laws and injunctions that find many people being locked up.

Meek recently called out the New York Legislature over the ‘Less Is More’ act, which would help eliminate incarceration for technical parole violations. Now, the rapper has set his focus on his city, Philadelphia, after the tragic loss of a 16-year-old boy to gun violence.

This past weekend, a 16-year-old boy was reportedly shot thirteen times in Philadelphia, which prompted Meek to call out the city, urging that a change in gun laws take place. Via Twitter, the rapper said: “If we having 500 murders a year in Philly why isn’t it legal to open carry and protect yourself. You can’t even protect yourself in a deadly neighborhood so y’all force kids to break the law for protecting themselves.... lil kids get done like this everyday!"

Meek didn’t stop there, as he addressed a tweet that referenced a line from fellow Philly rapper Lil Uzi Vert. The tweet from another Twitter user to Meek said, “now I feel uzi when he said, ‘I’m used to the murders i’m from philly.” Meek responded by saying, “That wasn’t just a bar!” Take a look above.
