Singer John Davis, one of the real voices behind pop duo Milli Vanilli, passed away from COVID-19 at age 66.

Davis sang on Milli Vanilli's 1989 Platinum hit, "Girl You Know It's True." The duo, fronted by Fab Morvan and Rob Pilatus, sold more than 30 million singles before their lip singing scandal caused the act to fall from grace and have their Grammy Award stripped.

A South Carolina native, Davis moved to Germany where he and other session singers provided vocals to Milli Vanilli's Diamond-selling sophomore album. While he was only listed as a background singer at the time, the duo's producer exposed Morvan and Pilatus as lip singers and created one of pop music's most infamous scandals.

Davis and fellow original singer Brad Howell formed The Real Milli Vanilli after the scandal, but only released one album. In later years, Davis and Morvan performed together as part of their collaborative project Face Meets Voice. Pilatus died of an overdose, in 1998, at 32-years-old.
