A recently released video coming out of Tennessee shows a jailed man pleading with cops moments before he died.
The incident occurred on May 6, 2020, when William Jennette, 48, was arrested for public intoxication, indecent exposure, and resisting arrest. Officers reportedly entered his cell after he was said to be banging his head against the walls and punching the door.
Jennette can be heard saying, "I can't breathe!" on the security video from Marshall County jail in Lewisburg, Tennessee.
“You shouldn’t be able to breathe, you stupid b****!” an officer said in response to Jennette's pleas. Deputies are seen kneeling on Jennette's back, to which he told officers to let him up or "I'm gonna die." Another deputy shot back, “Stay down, you stupid son of a b****.”
Jennette's death was ruled a homicide by “acute combined drug intoxication,” along with asphyxiation as a “contributory cause.” Nevertheless, a grand jury decided against charging the officers involved.
