A 23-year-old Memphis man named Raymond Barnes was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree murder after an incident that went down on April 27 that resulted in a police officer getting shot at.
The police report for the incident says that a Memphis officer was on patrol in the South Parkway and Texas Street area when he heard gunshots blocks away, then reportedly saw a black Infiniti drive off quickly. The cop caught up to the car, and the person in the car allegedly fired off two gunshots at the officer. The Infiniti ended up stopping before fleeing but set the car in reverse to slam it into the officer’s vehicle.
The car reportedly had temporary tags that belonged to Barnes, and the 23-year-old showed up to a police station days later to file a stolen vehicle report, claiming his car was stolen on April 24. However, police had clear images of Barnes, which led him to be taken in for questioning at the Violent Crimes Unit, where he admitted to being the driver in the shooting.
Other charges Barnes is facing include using a firearm during a dangerous felony, and evading arrest in a vehicle and on foot, and property damage.
