Derek Chauvin, who was recently convicted on state murder charges for the killing of George Floyd last May, is now facing a second indictment for a 2017 incident with a black teen.
A federal grand jury indicted Chauvin for allegedly using unreasonable force against the then 14-year-old boy. The two-count indictment says the former officer "held Juvenile by the throat and struck Juvenile 1 multiple times in the head with a flashlight."
"This offense included the use of a dangerous weapon -- a flashlight -- and resulted in bodily injury to Juvenile 1," the indictment read. For the second-count, Chauvin allegedly "held his knee on the neck and the upper back of the teenager even after the teenager was lying prone, handcuffed, and unresisting, also resulting in bodily injury."

According to reports, the Department of Justice is considering charging the newly convicted Derek Chauvin over a 2017 incident involving a black teen. The incident was brought to light in the midst of the investigation into the murder of George Floyd.
Chauvin was on video striking a 14-year-old so hard the wound required stitches to close. He also knelt on the teen for nearly 17 minutes as the youngster said he couldn't breathe. A state prosecutor said the video shows "a far more violent and forceful treatment of this child than Chauvin describes in his report,” however, no disciplinary action was taken against Chauvin.
The DOJ is now looking into the case, and Minnesota state officials are cooperating with the investigation. Federal charges could be brought against Chauvin relating to the George Floyd murder, as well.
