An army trainee was recently charged in South Carolina after a surveillance video was released showing the man hijacking a school bus full of elementary school students armed with a rifle.

Jovan Collazo, 23, of New Jersey, was seen making his way onto the bus armed with an M4 rifle after fleeing Fort Jackson in Columbia. Collazo barged onto the bus as the children were boarding and demanded the driver take him to the next town over.

The bus was carrying 18 students at the time, some of whom called their parents to alert them of the harrowing situation. After being repeatedly asked by the children if he planned to harm them, Collazo ordered everyone off the bus and drove several miles before ditching the bus and rifle.

Deputies later caught Collazo in a residential area. He was charged with 19 counts of kidnapping, carjacking, and possessing a weapon on school property.
