Irv Gotti revealed DMX's alleged cause of death during an interview with Chicago's 107.5 WGCI's morning show. As one of X's early collaborators and producer of some of the rapper's biggest hits, Gotti detailed his relationship with the late music artist before revealing the cause of death.

Gotti stated that DMX passed away on his youngest son's birthday. However, he said he wasn't shocked at X's passing after finding out the condition the rapper was in at the hospital. According to the Murder Inc. founder, DMX was given crack laced with Fentanyl which caused his overdose. In addition, X was diagnosed with COVID-19 which cause more complications.

"They said it was a bad dose of crack and they said some drug Fentanyl was mixed in with the crack and that's what made him overdose," Irv Gotti claimed. "Then when he got to the hospital, he got diagnosed with COVID and he couldn't breathe -- you know that COVID messes with your respiratory system -- so that's why he had to get hooked up to the ventilator. But they said before he did, they was, 'His brain died.'"

He continued by saying he wouldn't have wanted to see DMX in a vegetative state after being known as an energetic person. He also declared he was at peace with X's passing, believing the rapper's spirituality would absolve him from any wrongdoings he committed and free him of the demons he had battled throughout his life.
