Bodycam footage has been released by the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office, which shows Danville police Officer Andrew Hall fatally shooting Tyrell Wilson after he was stopped for jaywalking on March 11. After Hall calls Wilson over, the situation escalates quickly, and after 31 seconds, Wilson fired the fatal gunshot.
The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Hall was responding to 3 separate 911 calls about someone throwing rocks from the freeway overpass at Sycamore Valley Road. Wilson fit the description of the person throwing rocks, and Hall tells him, "Hey buddy, come here for a minute real quick." Wilson refused to comply with Hall and asked him to identify himself, and Hall responds by reprimanding him for jaywalking.
From there, Wilson, standing in the street with a shopping bag in one hand and a small object in the other, steps back and reveals he's holding a knife. Hall then tells Wilson to drop the knife, to which he responds, "Touch me and you’ll see what’s up." Hall then tells him to drop the knife again while drawing his gun. Wilson then tells the officer, "Kill me," and Hall tells him to drop the knife again.
Seconds later, Hall fires a shot, hitting Wilson in the face, leading him to fall on the ground. Hall doesn't approach Wilson until a backup officer arrives with a spare pair of gloves. Wilson was later transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Hours after the footage was released, Hall was charged with two felonies for the 2018 shooting of Laudemer Arboleda. Contra Costa County District Attorney Diana Becton filed charges of voluntary manslaughter and assault with a semiautomatic firearm against Hall. Hall stepped into the path of Laudemer Arboleda's car when he was trying to slowly drive away from police when they confronted him, and he 10 rounds through the windshield and passenger side of his vehicle.
