Reports noted that a judge in the Derek Chauvin trial criticized Rep. Maxine Waters over comments she made about protesters in Minnesota. The judge reportedly noted Waters’ words could be grounds for the defense of Chauvin to appeal the verdict.

Waters’ comments found her urging protesters to “get more confrontational” if Chauvin does not get convicted. Because of that, Chauvin’s attorney asked the judge to declare a mistrial. Judge Peter Cahill denied the request but noted Waters’ comments were “abhorrent,” saying, “I'll give you that Congresswoman Waters may have given you something on appeal that may result in this whole trial being overturned.”

News of this comes as jury deliberations began in the case this past Monday. Stay tuned for more updates.
