Memphis rapper Mendenhall 2X was one of two people killed in a shooting at a gas station in Memphis on Wednesday (April 14). The rapper, real name Donterrius Johnson, was pronounced dead at the scene, while a juvenile later died after being transported to a local hospital.
According to reports, 20-year-old Noah Jones has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the incident, which police say started over a stolen vehicle. Jones reported that his Chevy Camero was stolen from his home at gunpoint prior to the shooting.
The juvenile victim was seen on surveillance pulling up to a Valero gas station on Fox Meadows Road, and moments later, a group of four people was seen firing shots at the gas station. While Johnson and the juvenile were hit, Jones also sustained a gunshot injury to his leg, which he had treated at a local hospital. Detectives said Jones admitted to being on the scene and firing shots toward the gas station.
Memphis' CBS affiliate WREG spoke to Mendenhall 2X's friend fellow local rapper AC Blue, who said the rapper wasn't involved in the incident with the stolen car, adding that he was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nearly 400 people came out to pay tribute to the late rapper, who his friends called "a good guy."
