Kelyn Spadoni, a 33-year-old Louisiana woman working as a 911 dispatcher for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office, was arrested after authorities say she refused to return the $1.2 million accidentally deposited into her account. She was arrested and charged with theft valued over $25,000, bank fraud, and illegal transmission of monetary funds. She also was fired from her job after her arrest.

Local authorities say Charles Schwab & Co. accidentally deposited the large sum into Spadoni's brokerage account in February. The brokerage company says Spadoni avoided their calls, text messages, and emailed attempts to recover the money. Schwab attempted to reclaim the money, the company’s request was rejected because the money was not available.

The sheriff’s office opened a criminal investigation, and they allege Spadoni used the money to purchase a home and a 2021 Hyundai Genesis SUV that could cost as much as $70,000. According to authorities, 75% of the money has been recovered.

Spadoni remains in jail on a $50,000 bond.
