A 26-year-old man was arrested in Georgia after he was confronted by his father for carrying a gun in his pocket. Rather than hand it over, he allegedly opened fire on his father and caused a shootout between the two.
Authorities say the father-son shootout started when Mario Clark arrived at his father's house with a gun in his pocket. After Clark's father expressed that he didn't want the gun in his home and attempted to disarm him, Clark pulled the gun on his father.
"The father saw the imprint of the gun, that's the outline of the gun in his clothing," said Toby Nix of the Coweta County Sheriff’s Office.
After Clark refused to surrender his gun, the father grabbed his gun and chased his son out of the house. Surveillance footage shows Clark leaving the house with his father pointing a gun behind. A shootout ensues and the father is seen flinching and fleeing as shots are fired in his direction. Clark reappears in the frame and is seen firing shots from a distance before hiding behind a truck.
After the shootout, the father called the police.
"Our patrol deputies were able to make contact with the male outside the house and he still had the firearm on him at that time," Nix said.
Deputies say the father acted in self-defense and will not face charges, while his son has been charged with aggravated assault and has been booked into the Coweta County jail.
