According to reports, a Dallas police officer was arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder. Thursday's arrest comes roughly a year and a half after the murders occurred. The arrest was prompted by the gunman, who told authorities in 2019 that he kidnapped the two victims and murdered them at the officer's discretion.

Bryan Riser, a 13-year veteran of the police force is currently being held without bond at the Dallas County jail. Authorities say the murders are not related to Riser's police work but Dallas police chief Eddie Garcia evaded questions about the timing of the arrest which only fueled further suspicion. Garcia also said the department has placed Riser on administrative leave and they are looking to "expedite our process” toward his firing.
