A homeless man has been indicted on 52 counts for targeting and attacking light-skinned women at the Morgan Avenue subway station in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn between Nov. 17 and Jan. 2, and another two at nearby locations.

Khari Covington, 29, was charged with burglary as a hate crime, strangulation as a hate crime, and assault as a hate crime after attacking five women. When Covington was arrested in January, he told investigators that he attacked the women because they were light-skinned.

He appeared before Brooklyn Supreme Court Justice Danny Chun on Wednesday (January 24) where his bail was upheld at $150,000. Covington is facing life in prison if convicted.
