A police chase in Kentucky ended in a surprising fashion when an officer hugged the fleeing suspect instead of aggressively arresting her.

Latrece Curry fled from a domestic dispute with her husband when deputies started chasing her down. The chase reportedly spanned two counties before Curry stopped and was surrounded by multiple cops with their guns drawn.

Bodycam footage captured Hodgenville Police Chief James Richardson approach Curry's vehicle and noticed the terror on the suspect's face. Recognizing her fear, Richardson de-escalated the situation by demanding Curry to open her door. He said once the door was open, she was shaking so bad she couldn't take her seat belt off and started crying before she hugged him.

"The look on her face was of sheer terror," Richardson said. "She was shaking and it was obvious she was scared. I talked to her to calm her down and then she hugged me. That has never happened to me after a pursuit."

When asked why Curry was running from the police, Richardson said, "She was just in the zone, she didn't know what she was doing and she was extremely sorry."

Curry was later taken into custody.
